It can be overwhelming with so many dining options at Epcot. Throughout the park, there are numerous options to find a great meal. I find it challenging sometimes to not go back to the same place once I find a good one!
Recently, I fought the urge and tried a new place that I have never been to. Shiki-Sai is located in Japan in the world showcase. It’s upstairs in the same area as Teppan Edo, but offers a more casual atmosphere.
The restaurant does not have a dedicated gluten-free menu. I was told when we arrived that many things could be made gluten free. After some time, the manager came out and went through the menu you see below with me to share some options.

The manager went through the menu very quickly. It wasn’t clear everything that was in the sushi rolls, and he shared with me that most of them could be customized. If I’m honest, I didn’t feel as confident after the review of the menu with the manager since it felt rushed and as if he expected me to know or understand everything immediately. After realizing a few questions didn’t help, I decided to opt for what I did recall was safe.
I ordered the edamame appetizer. I got the traditional salt flavor and it was delicious. I also ordered the Kara-Age Chicken. I was told these are not dredged in flour, but corn starch. The chicken was cooked perfectly, but there wasn’t much special about it. It was essentially fried chicken covered in corn starch. I used the lemon to try and give it some flavor, but it didn’t change it much.

Nothing that came out was marked with the Disney allergen stick as you can see. That was a little surprising, but since these were not allergen items specifically, perhaps that was the reason.
Several people near me ordered sushi and it looked amazing, but I am a little more picky with my sushi order and I decided to not have any.
Overall, it was a tasty meal, but I didn’t feel confident overall after my experience. Will I go back? I certainly think it’s worth a second chance. I did not hate anything I had, but it could have been more transparent.
