Jersey Mike’s

I normally just write about the nicer restaurants around Orlando that I share on social media. But after a recent experience at Jersey Mike’s, I want to make sure I give them the credit they deserve.

Jersey Mike’s is not exclusive to Central Florida, having chains across many states. I recently came across information that the chain had started carrying gluten-free bread options for sandwiches. So I decided to see what this was about.

The menu doesn’t share many details about gluten-free, other than gluten-free bread is available. The bread option is Udi’s gluten-free bread. It is prepackaged, so it keeps it from being cross contaminated. It comes in the regular and large sizes of sandwiches.

I told them I needed a gluten-free sandwich, which they responded and asked if it was a preference or an allergy. Once I said it was an allergy, they immediately set into cleaning. The staff changed gloves immediately. They cleaned the counter, the meat carving equipment, everything! Then, the team changed gloves again. They took special care to keep the sandwich separate from everything else. They used clean equipment to apply mayonnaise and other items to the sandwich. It was so exciting to see that they took special care to make it as accommodating as possible.

I just had a turkey sandwich, but it was delicious. The Udi’s bread was extremely soft and fresh, with delicious turkey and cheese. The veggies were fresh as well.

While I am certain there is still a risk of cross contamination with the proximity of other bread items, the experience here was worth sharing. They took the allergy seriously, which many places don’t. They made sure to make my entire meal before starting anything else that might cause concerns or issues. Thank you for that Jersey Mike’s!
