After the dozens of times that I have visited Magic Kingdom, I recently decided to try Jungle Skipper Canteen. I have walked by the entrance dozens of times, but I haven’t seen many people talking about their experience in eating here.
After just a few minutes waiting in the entryway, we were sat at a table near the center of the large dining area. I was quite surprised by the size of the dining area. The outside is a little misleading.
I was given the allergy menu. As with any Disney restaurant, the menu is very clear as to what is safe for different allergens. The server was also well versed in what I could or could not have needing to eat gluten-free.
After reviewing the options, I chose the Mess Hall Duck Fried Rice. I was a little disappointed in the appetizer options. That’s when the server shared that the cheese bread from the main menu was gluten free and an excellent option to share.
The cheese bread came with a cream cheese chimichurri dip. The bread was soft and tastes like most Brazilian cheese bread options that I have tried in the past. The duck looked amazing on the plate. The actual duck was delicious, but the fried rice was extremely disappointing. The rice was crunchy and tasted almost burned. The sauce had an Asian flavor to it, but was a little more sweet than I typically prefer.
Of all the choices at Magic Kingdom, this is not my favorite choice. My family enjoyed their meal as well, but we will still opt to go to Liberty Tree or Be Our Guest over Jungle Skipper Canteen.
