At Disney’s Boardwalk Resort, there has been a lot of excitement with the opening of The Cake Bake Shop. A lot of influencers and bloggers have been visiting and sharing, focusing on the decor and the various options. But many of those options don’t work for those of us who need gluten-free.
We grabbed a lunch-time reservation to visit and see what all the hype was about. The inside of the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. There was a lot of work done to create a specific experience for anyone who visits.
We asked at the front about gluten-free menu options. The front hostess advised that the restaurant did not have a dedicated gluten-free menu, but that the server would be able to help us with gluten-free options. We were seated very quickly as the restaurant was not very busy. I was told to explore the menu and see what options I liked.
The menu had a lot of different options for meals and drinks. There were 6 total pages in the main menu, as you can see below. It was noted on the main menu that the sandwiches could all be made gluten-free with gluten-free bread.
When the server approached, he advised me that there were no gluten-free soup options. He shared that many things could be modified to be gluten-free, but that the soups were not an option. He shared that he had a family member that had celiac, and he typically recommends the sandwiches as the safest option. I opted for the chicken salad sandwich on the gluten-free bun. The bun was soft and delicious. There wasn’t a ton of flavor to the chicken salad, but it did not taste bad.
The big reason for the visit was to try a gluten-free dessert option, since everyone raves about the cakes. The dessert menu is large, having a few gluten-free options such as a brownie and macaroons.
I decided to go with the Oprah’s “O” List Mint Chocolate Chip Cake. At first I was a little skeptical, but on the first bite that went away. This was by far one of the best gluten-free cakes I have ever had. There were two types of icing on the cake. The inside was a dense icing that had a stronger mint flavor. The outside was light, similar to a buttercream icing, which didn’t have a strong mint flavor at all.
I cannot say that I recommend the food here. The sandwich was just normal, and overpriced in my opinion given what it was. But the cake, that was worth every penny. I cannot recommend it enough if you like chocolate mint!
