I had been hearing some rumors about Sofrito Latin Cafe in the community. Several people had shared about the excellent food and experience, so I thought I would give it a try. It was certainly worthwhile!
There was not a specific gluten-free menu and their menu was a large board as you enter the restaurant. In fact, that is perhaps the only thing I didn’t like. The entrance into the restaurant was really congested and confusing, as you can order at a kiosk or with someone. Each item that is gluten free on the menu is marked clearly, and you can find much of the items on their website listed as gluten free as well.
I ordered a Venezuelan Empanada with beef and the roast pork meal with rice, red beans, and plantains. The empanada was delicious and unique. The roast pork was cooked perfectly and perhaps the best roast pork I have had. It was juicy and delicious. The red beans and rice were nothing special. The plantains were good as well.
The dipping sauce that came with the empanada was delicious as well, I certainly don’t want to forget that.
With so many gluten free options, I must recommend this place. Of note, they are not a gluten free restaurant. They clearly state they do have risk for cross contamination, so be mindful if you are celiac or extremely sensitive. If not, enjoy a great place that I will be visiting much more frequently!
